Was born and reared in Starke, Florida. He is married to the former Miss Nicole Whitehead. They are the proud parents of two sons, Marcel and Marcus one daughter Dominique and a grandson Marshaun. He graduated from Bradford High School in Starke, Florida.

Pastor Tyson received his Bachelors of Arts Degree, Master’s and Doctorate Degrees in Christian Counseling from Brevard Christian University, Cocoa Beach, Florida. In 2008 Bishop Tyson received a Certificate of Pastoral Leadership from Seattle University. And more recently, May, 2009 Bishop Tyson received an honorary Doctorate Degree from Seattle Urban Bible College.

After dedicating his life to Christ at an early age, and acknowledging his call to the Gospel Ministry, Pastor Garry L. Tyson was licensed to preach in 1987 and ordained into ministry in 1993, both at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, Cocoa Beach, Florida. There he served in the following capacities: Director/Teacher of Vacation Bible School, Associate Minister, Youth Pastor, and Pastoral Assistant. In 1993, Pastor Tyson was called to pastor the Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Deland, Florida.

For over a decade Pastor Garry L. Tyson has made it his mission to empower changed people to change the world. His message and mandate is clear, to positively impact the world.

Pastor Tyson is a gifted pastor, teacher and preacher. He is highly sought after to conduct workshops, conferences and revivals. He as ministered all over the country and led two missionary trips to Port Au Prince, Haiti where he ministered to thousands.

His fresh and inspiring messages tackle such issues as spiritual growth, personal crisis, emotions, relationships and fellowship. Through the Holy Spirit, Pastor Tyson’s dynamic style of preaching demonstrates a keen awareness of people’s needs by providing practical biblical truths for everyday life.

On November 5, 2003, Garry L. Tyson became the 6th Pastor of Goodwill Baptist Church. Installation services were held in March of 2004.

Since his pastorate at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, Bishop Tyson's style of proclaiming the work of God has summoned hundreds to become members of the body of Christ and many have come back home because of his obvious love and commitment to his call of duty in the Great Northwest.

Bishop Tyson came to the Northwest with a vision from God for the people of God. To show Seattle, “the Savior”, King County, “the King of Kings” and the Pacific Northwest, “the Prince of Peace.”In March of 2009 Bishop Garry L, Tyson was the first Pastor from the Pacific NW to be featured on the Word Network’s Rejoice in the Word program. Bishop Tyson and his wife First Lady Nicole frequently host the TBN Broadcast of “Praise the Lord.”

Bishop Tyson was recently appointed to the position of Executive Vice President to the General Baptist Convention of the Pacific Northwest.
